Energy provider Eskom and transport company Transnet award mega contract to T-Systems

Two mega contracts with Eskom and Transnet
From January 1, 2010, T-Systems will provide all information and communication technology (ICT) for the energy provider Eskom and the transport company Transnet. The two semi state-owned companies have sold their shares in their current ICT service provider "arivia.kom" to T-Systems. At the same time, they each signed a five-year agreement with the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary. The complete outsourcing agreements are part of the strategy of Eskom and Transnet to concentrate on their core business and purchase infrastructure services from the external market. The aim is to benefit at an early stage from innovations in the ICT industry, reduce costs, and use savings more strategically for new initiatives such as the expansion of South African infrastructure. Through its agreement with Eskom, T-Systems also increases its base in the systems integration segment and gains additional expertise in the manufacturing industry and the public sector.
"After BP and Philips, this is the third major sales win in quick succession. The new mega contract bears out that we are pursuing exactly the right growth strategy with our international alignment," said Reinhard Clemens, member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom and CEO of T-Systems. "Major contracts like this lay the foundations for our business in the coming years and give us the clout we need in the markets that are important for us to offer global corporations attractive services locally."
With Arivia, T-Systems has access to key customers in the South African market, including the Airports Company SA, the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) and the Ministry of Water and Environmental Affairs. T-Systems' existing customers include the financial services provider OMG, the insurance group Sanlam, the construction equipment manufacturer Komatsu, and the vehicle
manufacturer Daimler.
